SPLIT PCB allows many more case options.
The GeekKlok PCB is now supplied with a V-groove cut into both sides:
The photos (above) shows the new S.A. (split-apart, aka "San Andreas vee groove"
which allows the board to be broken into two parts. It will not break easily, as it requires considerable deliberate force, so if you choose
to keep it intact, unsplit, it will not accidentally break. Breaking requires two hands,
and downward pressure applied with the groove positioned along the edge of a table.
This is a high-quality, FR4 glass-epoxy double-sided board with plated-through holes,
solder mask, double-side marking, and ground plane to reduce RF/EMI noise emissions.By splitting the board what can be done with it?
These prifiles show the many options and possibilities available with this new PCB.
What case style tickles your fancy?
Take a look at some example photos:
The above photo shows the front view of an assembled GeekKlok with the rear control board
mounted under the nixie tube board (split-under). Connectors are provided to interconnect the two
boards in this way. The boards can be separated again. The jumper connections use pins and sockets.
This is also available as an assembled and tested unit, order: GKKUN (under).
The above photo shows a view from the rear but with the control board mounted behind the nixie tube board (split-behind). Here right-angle pin connectors and sockets are used, so that the boards can be separated.
This is also available as an assembled and tested unit, order: GKKBK (back). Here are detailed views of the connectors:
The next photo shows that the nixie board can be replaced with an optional ZM1350
display board to make a totally different device. The ZM1350 Varisymbol "flat nixie" by Telefunken are still available at a reasonable cost, New Old Stock, and this combination makes a very compact assembly. The
ZM1350 is not as large as the B-7971, but has a bright and crisp display, very attractive.
The ZM1350 PCB is available as a blank board for kit builders (order: PCBZM)
The interboard pin connectors are identical to those used on the round B-7971 nixie board.
No circuit changes are required. The same rear board can be detached and used with either
the B-7971 or ZM1350 tubes, plug and play provided it is assembled for the proper orientation.
The ZM1350 board requires that the rear board be assembled for the CUTU option.
This is also available as an assembled and tested unit including ZM1350 tubes (order: GKKZM) and in a knock-down case (order GKKZCS) ---- coming SOON.
