GeekKlok Accessory Module
first announcement
The GeekKlok Accessory Module, or GAM, is an add-on assembly to the standard GeekKlok that provides additional functions not included in the main clock. These additional functions include:
- Seconds display on two numeric Nixie tubes.
- Nixie tubes can be side-view or top view (user selection), with over thirty types supported.
- Printed Circuit board has footprints for all of the supported Nixie types.
- Two chime modes available, with preferences for 15, 30 or 60 minute sounding interval.
- Morse Code chime mode can use 12- or 24-hour numbering, at from 10 to 40 WPM speed.
- Solo Chime mode with alternate codes for 1:00 and 2:00.
- User settings and alarm settings stored in nonvolatile flash memory.
- Input for Passive Infrared (PIR) sensor with setting to blank GeekKlok after 1-99 minutes of no motion.
The GAM has very flexible and useful alarms or reminders
- Four recurring alarms---no need to set them for the next occurrence.
- Each alarm has its own auto-silence timer. If not turned off, it sounds for up to 99 minutes.
- Alarms can be silenced by a button press. They are then armed and ready to sound at the next time.
- Alarms each have a day-of-week occurrence setting, weekdays, weekends, single days, every day except one, etc.
- Distinctive alarm signals for each alarm.
- Individual alarm outputs for external equipment, with a separate timer to keep output on for 1-99 minutes.
- The auto-silence timer setting now supports setting of zero, so that an alarm will not beep, only turn its output on.
- External output for amplifier or remote transducer for alarms (chime excluded from this signal).
The GAM is available in a PCB plus pre-programmed microcontroller for $33. If your GeekKlok has version 1.5 or later firmware that is all that you need (order code GAMOK). If your GeekKlok firmware is below version 1.5, then you need to upgrade the 40-pin controller on GKK (order code GAMUK), which is $41. Order now.
The initial release of the GAM User Manual is now available showing the schematic, parts list, mounting dimensions as well as operating and setting instructions. Download GAM User Manual. The manual is in its second preliminary release, covering some last-minute additions to the hardware and firmware, specifically the external alarm outputs and even four outputs that are active for a minute for each of quarter-hour chiming times. What have we forgotten?
